Mitigations are created when Nonconformances are identified during audits and are assigned to a responsible party that must log into Beacon to close it. They always have a due date, which can be configured along wiht a few other options on the Mitigation Settings page.
Status
Mitigations can have one of the following as a status:
- Open - On Time (All mitigations are created with this status)
- Open - Past Due
- Pending - On Time
- Pending - Past Due
- Closed - On Time
- Closed - Past Due
When action is taken by the responsible or approving party, the status will change. What the status changes to is based on previous status and whether the action was taken before the due date or after the due date.
Action Taken | Action taken on or before due date | Action taken after due date |
Responsible party closes mitigation (No Approval required) | Open - On Time --> Closed - On Time | Open - Past Due --> Closed - Past Due |
Responsible party submits mitigation (Approval required) | Open - On Time --> Pending - On Time | Open - Past Due --> Pending - Past Due |
Approving party approves mitigation | Pending - On Time --> Closed - On Time | Pending - Past Due --> Closed - Past Due |
Approving party rejects mitigation | Pending - On Time --> Open - On Time | Pending - Past Due --> Open -Past Due |
Change the level so that new due date is in the future | No status change | Open - Past Due --> Open - On Time Pending - Past Due --> Pending - On Time |
Change the level so that new due date is in the past | Open - On Time --> Open - Past Due Pending- On Time --> Pending- Past Due | No status change |
The status of a mitigation can also change automatically when the due date passes. These changes take place automatically in Beacon Quality. The status will never change for a mitigation that has already been closed.
Previous Status | New Status |
Open - On Time | Open - Past Due |
Pending - On Time | Pending - Past Due |
For example, if a mitigation has a status of Open - On Time and a due date of May 4th, then Beacon will automatically change the status on May 5th to Open - Past Due.
Note: Mitigation due dates are at 11:59pm in the time zone of the site.
Due Date
The due date is determined by the resolution period in the Mitigation Settings. For example if the mitigation is open on May 4th and the resolution period is 5 days, then the due date is 11:59 pm on May 9th in the time zone for the site.
